BMW Folding Mirrors Coding
Automatic mirror folding on lock is one of the most satisfying coding activations: press the lock button and the mirrors fold in, protecting them on narrow streets and marking the car as properly locked. The catch is hardware — the coding only works on cars already fitted with electric folding mirrors.
We check your car's equipment from the VIN first. If the folding hardware is there, we enable the behaviour; if it isn't, we'll tell you honestly that it's a hardware retrofit instead.
Coding vs hardware — the honest version
Many BMWs have mirrors that fold manually by hand, or electrically only via the door switch — these lack the electric folding mechanism coding can command. Cars with the electric folding option (or a mirror retrofit) are the candidates. If your car lacks the mechanism, no coding value will move the glass; it needs the hardware.
Behaviours we can configure
- Fold on locking the car
- Unfold on unlocking
- Fold when the car locks itself automatically (comfort access)
- Behaviour when locking from the app or key
If your mirrors are manual
Electric folding mirror retrofits — swapping in the folding mechanism, wiring and switch, then coding — are possible on many models and are work we quote separately after assessing the car.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my BMW has electric folding mirrors?
Press the mirror adjustment switch's fold position — if the mirrors fold electrically, the hardware is fitted. We also confirm it from your VIN.
Can the mirrors fold but stay out in cold weather?
On supported models, folding behaviour is configurable — some owners prefer folding only on demand. We set the behaviour you want.
Does this work with comfort access / keyless entry?
Yes, on cars with comfort access the fold can follow the locking event, including touch-to-lock on the door handle.
