BMW Welcome Lights Coding

Welcome and approach lighting turns your BMW's exterior lights on as you approach or unlock — a small behaviour that makes the car feel considered and makes walking to it in the dark safer. On many models the depth of the welcome sequence is configurable by coding.

We adjust welcome lighting behaviour on vehicles that support it: which lights participate, how they behave on approach, and how the sequence runs.

What's configurable

  • Approach lighting triggered by unlocking
  • Which exterior lights participate in the welcome sequence
  • Follow-me-home lighting duration after locking
  • Behaviour with the key vs comfort access

Hardware and market differences

The welcome sequence available to your car depends on its lighting equipment — LED headlights, the angel-eye/daytime running light generation, and market configuration. We confirm what your vehicle's lighting supports before changing anything.

Part of a lighting session

Welcome light coding often sits alongside other lighting behaviour changes in a single session — workshop or remote via JVS Remote Connect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can welcome lights be added to halogen-headlight cars?

The welcome behaviour uses the lights the car already has — halogen-equipped cars get a simpler sequence than LED-equipped ones. Full dynamic sequences need the lighting hardware that supports them.

Will it drain the battery?

Welcome lighting runs briefly on unlock and follow-me-home after locking — normal use with a healthy battery is fine.

Can I choose which lights come on?

On supported models, the participating lights and sequence behaviour are configurable. Tell us the effect you want and we'll set it to what your car supports.
