BMW iDrive 7 Apple CarPlay
iDrive 7 — the MGU (Headunit High) system fitted from 2018 on G Series models and later F Series updates — is BMW's first infotainment generation to support both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, usually wirelessly where enabled.
If either platform is missing from your iDrive 7 car, it's usually a specification or configuration matter that coding can resolve. We confirm the vehicle's support and enable the functions properly — never with emulators or bolt-on boxes.
What iDrive 7 supports
- Apple CarPlay — wired and wireless where hardware allows
- Android Auto — supported on this generation, activation dependent
- Full-width display as standard
Activation on iDrive 7
Where an MGU-equipped car doesn't have CarPlay or Android Auto enabled — commonly due to market, specification or option configuration — we can activate the missing function at vehicle level with genuine equipment, at the workshop or remotely via JVS Remote Connect.
When something's wrong
MGU systems can suffer failed updates, boot problems and connection faults. We diagnose these at component level — software, configuration or hardware — with BMW's own test procedures rather than swapping parts on spec.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does iDrive 7 support wireless CarPlay out of the box?
Where the vehicle's hardware and specification enable it, yes. If wireless connection isn't working, we can check whether it's configuration, software or a hardware fault.
Can I have CarPlay and Android Auto on the same car?
Yes — both platforms sit alongside BMW's own connectivity on iDrive 7; each phone simply connects to its own.
My iDrive 7 shows no CarPlay option at all. Why?
Usually the function isn't enabled for the car's recorded specification. We confirm from the VIN and can generally activate it — contact us to check.
